Samuel Julian Headrick, 80, a life-long resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at his home. He was the last of eleven children born to the late Elizabeth Martin Headrick and Marion Clinton Headrick. Julian played Scrooge in the 5th grade Christmas play and the nickname has been his for the rest of his life. He was a member of the 1949 class of Bradley High School where he was co-captain and defensive end for the football team and the pitcher for the baseball team. He was an avid pro-golfer and a former member of the Cleveland Golf and Country Club, Veterans of Foreign War, and the American Legion. He was inducted into Baseballs Old Timers Hall of Fame in the early 1990s.
Watching and attending sports was a love of his life. He loved playing golf, football, and baseball with his sons and daughter. He was always at his grandsons baseball games at Bradley High and Bradley Recreational Park, coaching from the concession box, where he volunteered.
Mr. Headrick was the General Manager for the M. C. Headrick Super Markets and was employed with them for 23 years. Before retiring, he also served as Supervisor for Benton Manufacturing. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as Military Police and was Acting Sergeant at the time of his discharge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Todd Michael Headrick; one granddaughter, Stephanie Marie Headrick; brothers and sisters, Willie Mae Kinser, Lucille Humphries, G. B. Headrick, M. C. Headrick, Edith Maples, Edna Reed, Nell Casteel, Chassie Jeffries, Dot Armstrong, and Jack Murphy; and one step-son, Lloyd Rymer.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Headrick; children, Danette Lee Headrick, Randy James Headrick, Samuel Clinton Headrick, and Wendy Marie Headrick; grandchildren, Jillian Duff Medina, Justin Duff and wife Monika, Juddson Michael Dawson, Samantha Headrick, and Jessica Headrick; and great-grandchildren, Glorie Madina, Kian Duff, Nykaia Dodd, and Marlee Headrick; step-children, Rhondalyn Rymer, Angela Waddell, and Stacey Rymer; and step-grandchildren, Candice Rymer, Carmen McAmis, Duncan Waddell, Kiefer Rakestraw, Kyley Rakestraw, and Kassidy Rakestraw. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home. Interment will be held privately Friday at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.
