Betty Daniel Lewis, 73, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, August 21, 2006 at her home. She was a member of the North Cleveland Church of God, an active member of the Unity Sunday School Class and a Prayer Warrior in the Ladies Prayer and Praise Ministry. Mrs. Lewis was born October 23, 1932 in Sylacauga, Alabama. She graduated from Sylacauga High School and attended the Lee College (University) Academy.
For over 18 years Betty worked in the loan department of AmSouth Bank (formerly Cleveland National Bank) and spent 26 years as a real estate broker. She worked with Realty Center GMAC (formerly Phillips Realty) where she served as a successful real estate broker and certified residential specialist. She retired in 1998. She also served in various offices of the Republican Party including president of the Republican Womens Club.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Nathan and Vera Daniel; brother, Ralph Edward Daniel; sister, Mariah Daniel-Platt; and brother, Paul Daniel.
She is survived by her husband Edd Lewis; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Angela Lewis; granddaughter, Tori Lewis and step-grandson Duncan Waddell of Decatur; sister, Nancy Talley of Birmingham, Alabama; a special aunt, Myra Allen of Alexander City, Alabama; sisters-in-law, Frances Roberts and Melba Lewis of Decatur, Mary Ruth Brown and Carol Daniel of Chattanooga, Evelyn Witt of Bradenton, Florida, and Connie Daniel of New Orleans, Louisiana; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sam and Fay Lewis of Athens; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews; numerous cousins; and special caregiver, Stella Jenkins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the North Cleveland Church of God with Pastor Mitch Maloney and Dr. F. J. May officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Don Roberts, Robby Williams, Ron Coleman, Garlin Hilliard, Ken Jones and Steve Hixon serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be special nephew Ralph Harold Daniel and the Unity Sunday School Class. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Unity Sunday School Class Tape Ministry, 335 11th Street, Cleveland, TN 37311.
