Bobby Gene Longwith, a life-long resident of the Tasso Community, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2010 at his home. He was a self-employed carpenter, an antique show car enthusiast, and a member of the Dalton Pike Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Eugene Leaman Longwith; parents, Virgil Longwith and Ester Lena Mull Longwith; two sons, Steven Gene Longwith and Darrell Dewayne Longwith; and his step-mother, Willie Longwith.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Longwith of Tasso, TN; two daughters, Malinda Cofer and husband Robert of Cleveland and Melanie Varner of Tasso, TN; one brother, Jerry Curtis Longwith and one half brother, Tim Longwith, both of Cleveland; one sister, Ernestine Scarcelli of Nashville, TN; two step daughters, Tina Jones and husband Lyndon and Gail Barros; one step son, Danny Caughron; two grandchildren, Adam Shane Varner and Steven Michael Longwith; nephews, Josh Longwith and Charles Beckler; niece, Amanda Manning and husband Chip; and step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Rev. Dudley Nichols and Rev. William Willie Austin officiating. Interment will follow in Tasso Cemetery with Curtis Vaughn, Jimmy Vaughn, Ray Garrett, Larry Kyle, Randall Cate, Tim Bacon, PFC Jonathan Trottman, and Joshua Longwith serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Shane Varner and Steven Michael Longwith. The interment service will be concluded with a dove release ceremony.
