Robert D. Coach Maupin, age 65, resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away suddenly November 10, 2009, in a local hospital. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was an usher and he was the coordinator of the van ministry for the church. He was a coach at Bradley High School for the past 41 years. He worked as an assistant at Grissom Funeral Home for the past 17 years. Robert was an active member of the Noonday Lions Club. He was inducted in the Bradley County Old Timers Hall of Fame in 2007 and in 2008 he was inducted in the Bradley Central High School Basketball Hall of Fame. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His testimony of kindness and love will live in for years to come in the hearts of many. He was preceded in death by his parents, H. T. Maupin, Jr. and Johnnie Dykes Maupin.
He is survived by one brother and sister in law, Mark and Gay Maupin, Signal Mountain, TN, one sister, Jo Terry Evans, Cleveland, TN; one aunt, Dorothy Shellabarger, Signal Mountain, TN, three nieces, Jennifer and husband, Scott Powell and family of Chattanooga, TN, Amy Maupin, Signal Mountain, TN and Terri Evans, Cleveland, TN; two nephews, Chuck and wife, Susan Evans and Josh Evans, Cleveland, TN, and Steve Evans, father of Terri, Chuck and Josh; and great nieces and nephews, Henry Jordan, Cleveland, TN, Luke, Meryn, Laura and Julia Evans and Nicholas and Chase Powell very special friends, Turner and Liz Jackson and their daughters, Brittany and Lindsey, Dale Hughes, David Goins, Mark Grissom and Steve Gibson. A host of friends from Bradley High School and First Baptist Church also survive.
A Celebration of the Life of Coach Maupin will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Pastors Allan Lockerman and Jim Gibson officiating. Interment will be held Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. C.S.T. at Collier Cemetery in Bledsoe County, TN with the Coaching Staff of Bradley High School serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cleveland Noonday Lions Club.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the First Baptist Church Building Fund. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 12, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements by Grissom Funeral Home.
