Opal Walden McAlister, 77, a resident of Cleveland, passed away early Wednesday morning in a Chattanooga hospital. She was a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church. She retired from Dr. Scholls after seventeen years of employment. After retirement, she went back to school and earned her Certified Nursing Assistant Diploma and then began working at Wellington Place. She was a member of the Cleveland Eastern Star Chapter #143. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Luther C. Walden and her second husband, Ervin McAlister; and parents, Arthur Ensley and Ethel Green.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Walden of Cleveland; one foster daughter, Phyllis Bradley and husband Jerry, Sr. of Cleveland; two sisters, Nora Dill and Pauline Yarber, both of Cleveland; one grandson, Jerry Walden and wife, Debbie; three foster grandchildren, Charlotte, Tijuana, and Jerry, Jr.; three great grandchildren, Jason Houk, Rena Banther, and Phillip Hamilton; seven great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at New Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Darrin Fansler, Rev. Danny Works, and Rev. John Cain officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Cemetery in Benton, Tennessee.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home which has charge of the arrangements.
