Frances Perry Mooney, 82, a beloved mother of six children, passed into her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 25, 2009.
All of her life she served her Lord Jesus Christ faithfully " in public and private. In addition to providing a nurturing home, she served in very practical ways. Her faith motivated her to serve others in a hands-on approach. While raising her family in Chattanooga, she volunteered at First Centenary United Methodist Church Inner-City Program, Orange Grove School and Meals-on-Wheels.
After the children were grown she moved to Columbus, Georgia, holding positions of employment at Open Door - a Seniors Ministry of the United Methodist Church, followed by employment with the State of Georgia through the Columbus Health, Education and Senior Referral Services. While in Columbus, she also volunteered for the Salvation Army, Agency of Project Care for Seniors, Community Wellness Council, Muscogee County Literacy Association, Chattahoochie Valley Episcopal Ministries, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Columbus Area Meals-on-Wheels and served as an on-call volunteer for Columbus Alliance for Battered Women.
Survivors include her children: Cynthia Stewart and husband, Lee Stewart, of Cleveland, TN; David Mooney and wife, Joy, of Chattanooga, TN; Diana Deason and husband, Jim, of Fairhope, AL; Carol Caldwell and husband, James, of Raleigh, NC; Pam Griffin of Birmingham, AL; and Reverend Jay Mooney and wife, Laura, of Springfield, MO.
Sister: Helen Hanlon and husband Richard, of Asheville, NC.
Grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Mark Stewart, and wife Kerrie, and children Anna and Cason of Cleveland, TN; Ben Stewart and wife, Nicole, of Cleveland, TN; Tammy M. Bridenstine and husband, Lee, and children Chloe and Zachary of Chattanooga, TN; Kristie Mooney and children Austin, Joshua and Jessica of Chattanooga, TN; Katie Griffin of Tampa, FL; Kelly Griffin and daughter, Kamyrn of Birmingham, AL; Jimmy Deason and wife, Denise and children Joshua, Kaley, Trey and Alyssa of Texas; Jeff Deason and wife, Kelly, and children Courtney and Jackson of Alabama; Clifton Caldwell and son, Kean of South Carolina; Beth Mooney, Elise Mooney, Eric Mooney and Erin Mooney " all of Springfield, MO.
Her final witness for our Lord Jesus Christ will be a memorial worship service Sunday, March 1, 2009, at 5 PM at First United Methodist Church of Cleveland. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Jay Mooney and the Reverend Drew Henry. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church of Cleveland, 3425 North Ocoee Street, Cleveland, Tennessee 37312, designated for the Mary Diana Samuels Orphanage in India.
