Reverend Gainus A. Murphree, 88, passed away October 11, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
Reverend Murphree was born April 28, 1921 in Birmingham, AL. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He moved to Cleveland in 1947 to attend Lee College University. He and Beulah Mae were married September 10, 1948. He was a long time member of North Cleveland Church of God where he served as choir director, Sunday School teacher, and youth leader prior to going into full-time ministry. Reverend Murphree was a retired ordained minister with the Church of God. He served the Church of God as an evangelist for 40 years, retiring in May of 1990.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Murphree of Birmingham, AL. and one sister, Mildred Reum of Plaza, ND.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beulah Mae Wheeler Murphree, his daughter Gaye Murphree (Wayne) Howell; his grandchildren, Candice Howell (Ronald) Patterson, Christopher Howell, Joshua (April) Howell, Jessica Howell, Kayla Howell, and Caleb Howell; and 4 great-grandchildren, Micah, Elijah, Judah, and Kaedon, all of Cleveland. He is also survived by one sister, Willie Ree Murphree of Birmingham, AL, one sister-in-law, Grace Golden of Cleveland, several nieces and nephews, Adopted Couple Reverend Tim and Ann Boren of Finley, TN, and special neighbors and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 14th at 2:00 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
