Lorraine Alder Painter, 86, went home to be with the Lord October 6, 2007. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Bessie and Arden Alder on December 9, 1920, Lorraine married Luther Edward Painter on April 22, 1938, and joined her husband in his ministry soon after. Dr. and Mrs. Painter served the Church of God in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North Dakota, Kansas, Indiana, Michigan, and Kentucky. When Dr. Painter joined the staff of Lee University, Mrs. Painter served as the Campus postmistress. She was a member of the Westmore Church of God.
Family and friends will remember Mrs. Painter with a book by her side or a crochet hook in her hand. When asked what she most enjoyed doing, Mrs. Painters face would light up as she said, I love to read. She was a long time patron of the Cleveland Public Library.
Mrs. Painter was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Gertrude, her husband and two children, David Michael Painter and Judith Naomi Larson.
She is survived by daughter Lorraine Painter of Chicago, Illinois; son Steve and wife Terrie Painter of Sterling Heights, Michigan; daughter-in-law Mary S. Painter (David) of Cleveland; son-in-law Larry Larson (Judy) of Clarkston, Michigan; one granddaughter Kelly Painter of Cleveland; four grandsons: Chris Means and wife Michele of Chicago, Illinois; Michael Painter of Cleveland; Brett Larson of New Baltimore, Michigan; and Stephen Painter of Sterling Heights, Michigan; two great grandchildren: Logan J. Means of Chicago, Illinois, and Vanessa Judith Larson of New Baltimore, Michigan; one niece Carolyn Litsinger of Olney, Maryland.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Rev. Wendell Smith and Dr. R. B. Thomas officiating. Interment will be held privately at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 12 noon until 1 p.m. prior to the service.
