Ruth Pettyjohn Savchenko, age 89, resident of Sulphur, Louisiana and formerly of Cleveland, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 9, 2009. She passed away in a hospital in Sulphur, LA. She was a loving mother and she was known for her hospitality. She was formerly employed with Pathway Bookstore as manager for 17 years. She was an avid reader. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Glenn C. Pettyjohn and her second husband, George Savchenko.
She is survived by three loving daughters and sons in law, Carol Pettyjohn, Sulphur, LA, Myrna and Ray Hopkins, Cleveland, TN and Gaye and Jerry Smith, Athens, GA; 6 precious grandchildren and spouses, Tamra Hatfield, Kelley Black, Tony Pettyjohn, Jill Hopkins, Heather and Clint Jenkins and Allison and Tim Allen; 5 great grandchildren, Jessica Freeman, Chip Freeman, Alysha Pettyjohn, Brody Jenkins and Caroline Jenkins; one great great grandson, Ian Donnely. One brother and sister in law, John W. and Opal Cox, Cleveland, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of the Life and Home Going of Ruth Pettyjohn Savchenko will be held Friday, March 13, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Rev. Art Pettyjohn and Pastor Mitch Maloney officiating. Music provided by Rev. Bennie Triplett and Heather Jenkins. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Clint Jenkins, Tim Allen, Chip Freeman, Bob Reffner, Sammy Lauderdale and Robert Gerhart serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Grissom Funeral Home who has charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.grissomfh.net
