Arthur G. Pressley, age 83, resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday evening, January 9, 2007, in a local hospital. He was retired from Lee University where he had served as the director of the Physical Plant of which the building was named in his honor. He was a veteran of World War II and had served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the North Cleveland Church of God where he had served as usher, served on the Church and Pastors Council and had served on the building committee for the original sanctuary. He was a longtime active member of the Unity Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Pressley, parents, James C. Pressley and Margaret E. Alexander, brothers and sisters, Lois Combs, James Clyde Pressley, Ruth Rice, Ethyl Hendrix and Edith Huscamp.
He is survived by his two loving daughters and sons in law, Wanda and Glenn M. Dent and Pamela and Laud L. Vaught of Cleveland, TN. One sister, Estelle Skeen, Largo, FL and three beloved grandchildren, Kaylee Vaught, Madison Vaught and Christian Vaught. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of the Life and Home Going of Arthur Pressley will be held Friday, January 12, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at the North Cleveland Church of God Chapel with Pastor Mitch Maloney and Dr. F. J. May officiating. Ted Gee, Jack Higgins, Luther Walton, Jimmy Wilson, Duane Pyeatt and Rick Norton will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of The Hardees Gang P. D. Ingle, Russell Hughes, A. A. Ledford, Jack Smith, Bob Crane, Albert Hoffman and Sam Abbott. Also serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Unity Sunday School Class.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery in Greenville, South Carolina. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Martha Ministry at the North Cleveland Church of God 335 11th St. N. E. Cleveland, TN 37311.
