William Thomas Bill Salter, age 81, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, February 17, 2008. Bill and his wife, Jean, were married 56 years. He was born December 14, 1926 in North Tarrytown, New York and moved to Cleveland, TN with his family in 1961. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII. He worked at Duracell for 35 years until his retirement 19 years ago. Bill and Jean traveled extensively in the U.S. after retiring. Bill was very proud of his children and grandchildren and most enjoyed celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and holidays laughing and joking with the ones he loved the most. He would most want to be remembered for his love of his family. Bill was an avid golfer and had the pleasure of getting a hole in one at the Flagstone Golf Course in 1995. He was a long time member of St. Therese of Lesieux Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was everything a husband and father could be. He was preceded in death by his father, John Salter, his mother, Sarah Salter and his brother, John W. Salter.
He is survived by his wife, Jean and their two sons, William Thomas Tom Salter, Jr. and his wife, Joyce Seidel Hausman of Knoxville, and Michael David Salter and his wife, Tamara Salter of Chattanooga. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Larissa Justice and husband, Ryan Justice, of Knoxville, TN and Brittany Salter, Paige Salter and Ian Salter of Chattanooga.
