J. R. Scoggins, age 77, resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away at his residence on Thursday, May 1, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a member of Samples Memorial Baptist Church. He was a local car dealer and owner of L&S Motors. He loved dirt track racing as a driver, car owner and fan with his son and grandson. He also enjoyed fishing with his pastor. He was the son of the late Erbie Scoggins and Ellen Lacky Brannon. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Larry, step son, Roger Brock and two brothers, Frank and Tommy Scoggins.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Ethel Scoggins, two sons, Lamar and wife, Tammy, Scoggins and Danny and wife, Teresa, Scoggins; two daughters, Janice Brock and Sheila Smith; one brother, Don Scoggins and three sisters, Evelyn Barber, Carolyn Garrett and Peggy Johnson; 11 grandchildren, Shana Scoggins, Brittney Scoggins, Scott and Mistie Brock, Janet Richey, John Ownbey, Julie Durham, Nolan and Ginger Morgan, Stephanie Lynn and Russell Smith; 14 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Special friends, Faye and Huel Hooker.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 5, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Pastor Lee Ingram, Rev. Mark Cameron and Rev. John Bivens officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Wendell Ingram, Mark Truelove, Chad Elliott, Rex Richey, Erbie Scoggins and Dan Scoggins serving as pallbearers. The family requests memorials be made to Samples Memorial Baptist Church, Cleveland, TN.

The family will receive friends Sunday, May 4, 2008, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Grissom Funeral Home who has charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.grissomfh.net
