Pete Scott

d. September 7, 2006

The Scott Family is sad to report the passing of Jesse Pete Scott, a sincere Christian, a beloved husband, a treasured brother, a favorite uncle, an outstanding musician, and perhaps the worlds most avid fisherman. The family sincerely thanks those who prayed and demonstrated their love and concern during his valiant struggle.

The youngest child of the late Frank Scott and Cora Jenkins Scott, Pete Scott arrived in this world on February 13, 1950, and departed on September 7, 2006. He leaves this world"and those acquainted with him"all the better for having known him.

Surviving him is Kathy Scott, his beloved wife of 33 years. He is also survived by three brothers and a sister, along with their respective spouses: Howard and Clara Scott, John and Betty Scott, Eddie and Dianna Scott, and Jack and Mary Dailey ne?e Scott. To this is added a number of in-laws, nieces and nephews, and their families and children.

Throughout his life, Pete exhibited three defining passions that serve to provide a glimpse into the character of this good man First and foremost, Pete Scott was fiercely loving and loyal to his family and kin. He had an unyielding desire, like his mother before him, to keep the family together. This hard-working man seemed to always be ready and willing to go out of his way to lend a helping hand to the growing Scott clan. It might be helping them work on their homes, taking up freshly-baled hay, playing a game of dominoes, driving family members for yet another trip through Cades Cove in the Smokies, or hosting one of many, many get-togethers at his house, and on and on. Thats just how he was, and for a number of years, he and Kathy have been the hub of Scott family activities, their home a regular meeting place for the adults and a playground for the children.

Yet another passion was making music. A life-long member of the Church of God, he attended the Birchwood Church of God, and was known throughout many churches in Cleveland as an outstanding guitar player. You might say that he had two favorite songs: Wildwood Flower "which he could play with great skill"and any selection from the Red Back Hymnal. No new-fangled songs for him! He was raised on the precious hymns, and he lived"and he died"by them.

Lastly, perhaps nothing better sums up Pete Scott than his love of going fishing. It was not uncommon for him to travel six hundred miles (one way) for a single day of fishin and fellowship"he loved it that much! And he was good at it, too. Delicious fish of all kinds"from numerous ponds, lakes, rivers, bays, gulfs and oceans"have lost their valiant struggle with Pete Scott and wound up on the menu at a family fish fry with all the fixins.

Alas, these few words can never hope to tell of the wondrous beauty and sweetness of our beloved Pete, or just what his life meant to us all. How very, very much we have lost in losing himThankfully, he has only departed this visible world, and is not lost to us forever. We shall see him again come the Resurrection, for he put his faith, hope, and trust in the Savior, and was assuredly born-again. So until that glad reunion day, we shall remember him fondly and often, and we shall continue to love Peteand we will rest assured that he, now with the Lord, continues to love us.
