Jay Franklin Sherlin, age 75, resident of Cleveland, TN, entered heaven Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009. He passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was a member of North Cleveland Church of God for more than 50 years where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, council member, Building Committee member, Usher and served on the North Cleveland Towers Board of Directors. He was a long time member of the Unity Sunday School class. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was stationed in San Diego and Pearl Harbor. Jay was an excellent athlete having excelled in baseball, softball, basketball and golf. An avid and proficient golfer he scored a hole-in-on on 6 occasions. Jay was a Hall of Fame member of Cleveland-Bradley County Old Timers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Maude Ogle Sherlin.
He is survived by his faithful wife of 52 years Lois Boehmer Sherlin, his son Stan Sherlin and wife Cheris Sherlin of Montgomery, AL. The apple of his eye was his adorable granddaughter, Emma Charmagne Sherlin. He is also survived by one sister, Dorothy Frazier of Cleveland and five brothers, Jim Sherlin (and wife Linda) of Gallatin, TN; D.A. (and wife Mary Jo) of Cleveland ,TN. Roy Sherlin (and wife Alice) of Cleveland, TN., Rev. Mervin Sherlin (and wife Betty) of Ridge Manor, FL., Bob (Boog)(and wife Joyce) of Louisville, KY. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the North Cleveland Church of God. Interment will follow in Ft. Hill Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the North Cleveland Church of God building fund or to Hospice of Chattanooga. Visitation will be Tuesday 11-2 at North Cleveland Church of God. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Grissom Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to www.grissomfh.net
