Wilburn G. Taylor, age 84, a resident of Birchwood, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, August 23, 2010. A native of Cleveland, he lived most of his life in the East Brainerd community of Chattanooga and later on in Birchwood, TN. His great-great-grandfather Andrew Taylor was the founder of Taylors Place which became present day Cleveland. Wilburn was active in the American Indian community and was a member of the Cherokee Elders Council of Tahlequah, OK. He was a Deacon and faithful servant of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He used his God-given musical talent to serve the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Ballard Taylor and Fannie Myrtle Beavers Taylor; two brothers, D. A. Taylor and Herbert Jackson Taylor; and two grandchildren, Richard Dewayne Taylor and James Alan Taylor.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Grace Aretta Williams Taylor; five sons and their wives, David and Nancy Taylor of Birchwood, William and Wilani Taylor of Cherokee, NC, Richard and Barbara Taylor of Chattanooga, Harry and Glenda Taylor of Cleveland, and Frank and Brenda Taylor of Henagar, AL; two brothers, Carl and wife Annie Taylor of Hixson, Robert and wife Pat Taylor of Cherokee, NC; one sister, Etta Marie Grider of Rossville, GA; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Rev. James Langston officiating. Interment will follow at Flint Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
