Ronald Allan Wotring died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at his home. Ronald was born December 6, 1947 in Adrian Michigan. He had lived in Tennessee for 20 years. He was a member of the Bowman Hills SDA church where he served as a deacon.

Ronald loved his chosen trade of construction and was the owner of Hop To It Construction. He loved to take a standing home, care-worn from life, and restore it to its former glory to the delight of its happy owners. Ronald graduated from Cleveland State Community College and Andrews University in Michigan, majoring in architecture.

Ronald was a veteran of the United States Army and a survivor of the Vietnam conflict. On May 5, 1968, he was severely wounded and recuperated for nearly 18 months in a Japanese hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The Purple Heart with its certificate and numerous authentic Western Union telegrams are among his treasured memories. In the past year, Ronald was reunited with his service medic who saved his life on the battlefield.

Ronald was the son of the late Harold Wotring and Erma Burke. He was also preceded in death by his eldest brother, Glennis Wotring.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Brenda Lee, and by his son, Spc. Ronald A. Wotring II and wife Michelle of Collegedale, and his daughters, Melissa Wotring and companion, Angie Johnson of Brighton , Michigan, and Angela Wotring of Manitou Beach Michigan and her children, Breanna and Brent and step daughter, Amber Harmon of Collegedale; his sister-in-law Linda Ray Wotring of Toledo, Ohio, his sisters, Patricia (Henry) Kuhlman of Collegedale, Carol (Duane) Fancher of Berrien Springs Michigan, Marjorie Wotring of St. Joseph Michigan and Susan Martin of Niles, Michigan and his brother, Roger (Sharon) Wotring of Berrien Springs, Michigan. Ronald is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Grissom Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements. Services will be held at the Bowman Hills SDA church at 300 Westview Drive, Cleveland, TN at 1 p.m. Friday, February 26, with Pastor Dwight Herod officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Ronald will be buried Monday, March 1, 2010 at 1 p.m. for family and friends in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors. Online condolences may be sent to www.grissomfh.net
