Juliane Wuesthoff, 81, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010 in Hospice Home of Chattanooga. A devout Catholic of St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Cleveland, where she had belonged to The Legion of Mary and was a daily Mass attendee.
She was born December 1, 1928 in Sandizell, Upper Bavaria to Johann and Sofie (Hille) Goetz. She and Edward M. Wuesthoff, her devoted husband and partner for 62 years, were married in Augsburg, Germany on February 7, 1948. They started their family in San Jose/Santa Clara, California and resided in Springfield (Agawam), Massachusetts, Columbus and Mansfield, Ohio, Cleveland, Tennessee, Grand Rapids, Michigan and Lexington, Massachusetts, from where they retired to Cleveland, in 1991.
Active in church and community, she was a member of the St. Therese Parish Council, ladies volunteer and the Senior Friendship groups. A past president of the Womens Club of St. Peter Church, Mansfield, Ohio, she was a Red Cross Volunteer at Bradley Memorial Hospital, a volunteer at the Senior Center in Lexington, Massachusetts and a docent at Lexingtons historic Buckman Tavern.
Julie was a member of the Serra Club of the Chattanooga Area supporting vocations to the Catholic priesthood and religious life, the Cleveland Country Club and a past member of the Ocoee Garden Club. She enjoyed bowling and outdoor activities including cross country skiing, golfing, biking, sailing, canoeing, fishing and especially walking and hiking, the latter entailing many trips to the Swiss, German and Austrian Alps with her husband, children and friends.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother with a special place in her heart for babies.
She is survived by five children: Johanna Riddle, Westerville, Ohio, Edward P. Wuesthoff, San Antonio, Texas, Erika (James) Walker, Gainesville, Georgia, Stephen (Jane) Wuesthoff, Cincinnati, Ohio, Philip (Wende) Wuesthoff, Hixson, Tennessee; daughters in law Darlene Wuesthoff, Decatur, Alabama and Sue Wuesthoff, San Antonio, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, Julie Riddle, Columbus, Ohio, Lisa Riddle, Portland, Oregon, Nathan (Macy) Wuesthoff, Sanford, Florida, David Wuesthoff, Nashville, Tennessee, Nicholas Wuesthoff, St. Louis, Missouri, Edward P. Wuesthoff, Jr., San Antonio, Texas, Major James (Tammy) Walker, Boise, Idaho, Kaela and Max Wuesthoff, Cincinnati, Ohio, Guy, Augusta, Pierre, Sybil and Isabel Wuesthoff, Hixson, Tennessee.; one great grandson, Orion Walker, Boise, Idaho; sister, Irmgard Mailer; nephew and cousins in Germany and brother and sisters in law, John Wuesthoff, Portland, Maine, Ann Brugger, Amherst, Ohio and Dr. Virginia Frost-Jensen, Denmark and children.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church with Reverend Peter Iorio officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Therese of Lisieux Church Building Fund, Hospice of Chattanooga, or New Hope Pregnancy Center of Cleveland.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home which has charge of arrangements. The visitation will be concluded with a Rosary service beginning at 8 p.m.
