E. Conner Bacon, died December 29, 2010 at a Hospice of Chattanooga facility. Conner lived on the same family farm on which he was born November 16, 1921. He was 89 years old and was the last surviving member of the family of James Fred and Emma Roark Bacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Fred and Emma Roark Bacon; sister, Annie C. Reed; two brothers, John Louis Bacon and Paul Bacon. Conner loved the farm and was a major factor in bringing it to the point where it was known far and wide as a model farm for other farmers. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Georgetown for many years and held the position of head usher in his young adulthood. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Hazel Gee Bacon; son, Rodney and wife Brenda Bacon; daughter, Janice Kennedy; grandson, Gregory Alan Bacon and wife Lori; nieces, Pat Best and husband Jim of Florida, Pat Sample and Evelyn Payne and husband Winston of Cleveland; nephew, Bob Gates and wife Betty. He was a member of the Hamilton County Farmer and Dairy Association and served on the board of directors. Conner was a quiet, well mannered man, a gentleman in every sense of the word and a friend to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2010 in the chapel of Grissom Funeral Home with Reverend J.W. Burgess and Reverend Earl Farris officaiting. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery. Greg Bacon, Bradley Bacon, Rusty Baltimore, Bill Brooks, Eric Campbell and Jerry Stinnett will serve as pallbearers.
