Henrietta Alicia Rann Ewing, age 65, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2011 in Murfreesboro, TN following a lengthy illness. Her early years were lived in Cleveland and Chattanooga, TN before pursuing a career in Atlanta, GA. She received vocational and professional industry training through the University of Georgia while growing her career in cosmetology. She enjoyed her salon experience working alongside such names as Andre Sassoon, but her true passion was teaching. She employed her marketing, management and administrative skills to further develop Roswell Beauty College, North Fulton Beauty College and Gwenett Vocational Educational Center at Parkview High School. She served as president of the Atlanta Hairdressers' Association. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, Albert F. Ewing, Jr. and father, Grover R. Rann. Survivors include her mother, Pauline S. Rann; brother, Grover R. Rann II and wife Carol; sisters and their husbands, Nancy and Dan Houston, Jeannie and Karl Prinslow, Patti and Ken Thigpen, Becky and John Dethero and Renate Mathews; ten nieces and nephews and fifteen great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Pastors Reed Shell and Debbie Stokes officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN with Ken Thigpen, Taylor Thigpen, Logan Thigpen, Brad Dethero, Lock Dethero, and Mark Warner serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Mathews, Danny Houston, and Kelly Prinslow. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Congregational Care, Broad Street United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 3, Cleveland, TN 37364-0003.
