Philip Ernest Day, 73, a resident of Cleveland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Philip was born January 9, 1938 in Washington, DC to the late William and Florence Day. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served six years active duty. Philip retired from the Department of Defense after 26 years as a civilian employee. He and his wife Carole, ministered in La Maddelena Sardina, Italy from October 1990 until February 1997 as Ministry to the Military Center Directors for the Church of God headquartered in Cleveland, TN. After returning stateside, Philip continued serving the Church of God through the Ministry to the Military office and later through the office of Lay Ministries where he blessed many people with his loving and generous heart. He and his wife were actively involved in the North Cleveland Church of God. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Carole J. Day of Cleveland; two daughters and sons in law, Pamela Sue and John Eyer of Roxbury, PA, and Laurie Jean and Tony Negrete of Omaha, NE; one brother, Carl E. Day of Kensington, MD; four grandchildren, Nathaniel, Angel, John Philip and Anna Catherine. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at North Cleveland Church of God Dixon Chapel with Leonard Albert and Pastor Mitch Maloney officiating. Interment will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at National Cemetery in Chattanooga with David Souders, Wade Lutz, Mike Kirkpatrick, Rod Parchman, Don Warrington, and Jackie Carroll serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Negrete, John Eyer and Nathan Steadman. The interment service will conclude with military honors. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
