Billy Joe Moffett, 81, died Sunday, June 12, 2011 with his family at his bedside at Hospice of Chattanooga. He was born February 2, 1930 in Atlanta, GA to the late Joseph and Velma Moffett. Rev. Moffett was an Ordained Bishop in the Church of God and served as an evangelist and a pastor in the states of Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee. He was the State Overseer for the Churches of God in Colorado/Wyoming, Maryland/Delaware/D.C., and South Georgia. He also served as the director of the Department of Benevolence and Superintendent of the Church of God Home for Children. In his later years, Rev. Moffett served as the Senior Adult Pastor of the Mount Paran North Church of God. In addition to his appointments for the Church of God, he also served as the Chairman of the Chaplains Commission and Co-Chair of the Benefits Board. Rev. Moffett was an influential leader and administrator for the Church of God, and was loved by many who knew him. He was a man of gentle kindness, integrity and straight forwardness. He loved people. He was preceded in death by his siblings Clyde Moffett, Mildred Grantham, Doris Robinson, and Hazel Williams; and two sons, Timothy and Mark Moffett. He is survived by his wife, Ailene Moffett; daughter Reba and husband Gregory Morris; son Brad and wife Melissa Moffett; grandchildren Sean Morris and Morgan Moffett; and two nephews, and three nieces. Funeral services will be held Tuesday June 14, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the North Cleveland Church of God Main Sanctuary. Interment will be held on Wednesday June 15 at 11 a.m. at the Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens in Mableton, GA. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11-2 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Because of Rev. Moffett's involvement in founding the following ministries, the family requests that memorials be given to the New River Ranch or the Heart of Florida Ranch for troubled boys.
