Mildred Bennett Cannon, 79, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2011. She was born June 28, 1932 and raised in Cleveland, Tennessee. She attended the Baptist church. She was employed after high school by Southern Bell Telephone Co. She then chose to stay home and take care of her children. She was an avid bowler and traveled to many places with her winning bowling team. She was a well known and highly respected member of the Cleveland community. She was preceded in death by Sam Cannon (previous husband of 30 years); parents Earl and Geneva Bennett; and brother, Dr. Bobby D. Bennett. She is survived by the loves of her life - son Phillip Cannon, daughter Janna Cannon Sullivan and Janna's three children (Mildred's grandchildren), Sammy, Natalie, and Kimberly Sullivan. She is also survived by her three sisters, Judy Rodgers, Linda Kellermann, and JoAnn Lyles; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 12, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Pastor David Riggs officiating. Interment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Sammy Sullivan, Randy Rodgers, Joe Lemons, Randy Fox, Charlie McKenzie and Jerry Lyles serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mayor Tom Roland, Johnny Holden, Larry Wallace, and Ricky Swafford. The family will receive friends Monday from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Cannon wants to help Cleveland tornado victims and the family requests donations be sent to United Way of Cleveland or Salvation Army for that purpose.
