Jacob C. Smith

Jacob C. Smith, age 82, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, October 23, 2011 in a local hospital. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. and served during the Korean Conflict. He attended the University of Tennessee. He loved children and animals and was an avid sports fan and outdoorsman. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Smith; mother and step-father, Jessie Lou and Ora H. Ownby; sister, Ruth Smith Richardson and brother, Robert Hal Ownby. Survivors include his wife, Mary Disharoon Smith of Cleveland; son, John Richard Smith of Cleveland; sisters, Deanna Dooly (Philip) of Andrews, NC and JoAnn Young (John) of Cleveland; sister in law, Mitzi Ownby of Cleveland; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Rev. Thomas Stoval officiating. Interment will follow at Moore's Chapel Cemetery with Mark Dooly, Timothy Disharoon, Keith Hooper, Logan Stoval, Roger Stewart and Tony Logan serving as pallbearers.
