Mildred Alise Johnson Foster was born September 23, 1923 in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Gaines Bernard Johnson and Martha Etta Hensley Johnson. She entered her heavenly home on Sunday, November 27, 2011. She attended schools in Greenville and Greer, South Carolina. Mildred became a born-again Christian at the age of 14 and joined the Church of God in Greer, SC at age 16, where she worked faithfully for her Lord and the Church. Mildred attended and graduated from B.T.S. in Sevierville, TN in 1945 to better equip herself to serve her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When the family relocated to Cleveland, TN in 1954, North Cleveland Church of God became their church home. Mildred was a Deaconess, a charter member of the Tuesday morning Ladies Prayer and Praise Group and she helped establish the on-going card ministry. In addition, she founded the Martha Ministry which served the homebound, sick, elderly, and nursing home residents. She was also a member of the Peacemakers, the Unity Sunday School class, and a former member of the Crusader Choir. Mildred was a faithful, devoted wife, a loving, praying mother, a grandmother and great grandmother (Granny Mildred). She was so proud of her family and extended family. She will be missed by us all, but our loss is Heaven's gain. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Harold Vernon Foster, Sr. in 2008; her only son, Harold Vernon Foster, Jr. in 1979; brother, Bernard Johnson; and three sisters, Ruth Harvell Greene, Eleanor Ambrose, and Pat Copeland. Survivors include two loving, caring daughters and sons in law, Vonda and Bruce Mercora and Faith and Dennis Murray; three lovely granddaughters and husbands, Alise and Dale Cannon, Denise and Dr. Robert Ballard, and Renee and Jody Vieau; five precious great grandchildren, Stephen and Lauren Cannon, Jon and Coda Vieau, and Maggie Ballard; brother and sister in law, Otis and Betty Johnson; brother in law, Freddie Copeland and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Rev. Bernice Woodard and Pastor Mitch Maloney officiating. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with family members serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ladies Prayer and Praise Circle and Martha Ministry. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12 - 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
