LCDR Albert Sidney Bowen III, (USN Ret), 85, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 in a local hospital. He was a graduate of McCallie School and the United States Naval Academy. He was a retired Lt. Commander in the United States Navy. He was a veteran of World War II, Korean War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was also a cost data manager at Brown Stove Works. He served as junior and senior warden at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where he was a member since 1971. LCDR Bowen was also one of two of the first chalice bearers and was vice president and treasurer for Episcopal Men of Southeast Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sidney Bowen, Jr. and Katie Sue Schaefer Bowen. He is survived by his wife, Sayle Bowen of Cleveland; son, Bryan McDonald Bowen and wife, Katie of Chantilly, VA; daughter, Elizabeth Lesley Milne Bowen of Lexington, KY; grandchildren, Jennifer and Amanda; siblings, Katherine Bowen Harra of Clearwater, FL, LCDR William Schaefer Bowen (USN Ret) of Arlington, VA and Virginia Bowen Lester of Westwood, MA; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Joel Huffstetler officiating. Interment will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Garden. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at St. Luke's Parish Hall prior to the service. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 320 Broad St. NW, Cleveland, TN 37311.
