Essie Pauline Chapman, 94, of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012 in a local hospital. She was a member of East Cleveland Baptist Church and also a member at the Walker Street Senior Center. She enjoyed working with flowers in her yard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Harris Chapman; parents, Pete and Elizabeth Officer Finnell; infant son, Leroy Chapman; and eleven brothers and sisters, Hershell, Leonard, Wayne, Frank, Harold and Jack Finnell and Bessie Smith, Irene Deverell, Ruth Haven, Hazel Finnell and one infant child. Survivors include her children, Billy Chapman and wife, Linda and Carol Elizabeth Nolen and husband, Bill, all of Cleveland; five grandchildren, Leslie Bennett, Holly Stanley, Blake Chapman, Brian Nolen and Kirk Chapman; seven great grandchildren, Jason Bennett, Amanda Brakebill, Nathaniel Chapman, Trevor Stanley, Adriana Chapman, Peyton Nolen and Madison Nolen; five great great grandchildren; brother, Joe Charles Finnell of Little Rock, AR; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2012 in the chapel of Grissom Funeral Home with the Reverend Marvin Fowler and the Reverend Frank Nolen officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.
