"Pete" James Carter, 81, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 in a local hospital. He moved here from Atlanta, but has been a resident in Cleveland for the past 35 years. He was retired from Southern Binders and was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who never met a stranger and enjoyed life. His favorite saying was "You can't keep a good man down." He will be greatly missed and never forgotten and will always remain in our hearts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Leona Loudermilk Carter; daughter, Darlene Carter; sister, Sadie Parrott; and brothers, John Carter, Hoyt Carter, Paul Carter and Alvin Carter. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lura Curtis Carter of Cleveland; children, Brenda (Bobby) Beavers, Linda (Dennis) Wilson and Ann Ooten, all of Cleveland and Shelbie Burchfield of Etowah; grandchildren, Carrie (Bobby) Carr of Ooltewah and William Beavers, Brittany Bacon, Jeremy Beavers, Bridgette Ooten, Ashley Wilson , Amber Wilson and Laurabelle, all of Cleveland; great grandchildren, Aiden Carr, Carlee Beavers and Marlee Wilson; sister, Velda (Johnny) Collier of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Calvin (Sam) Carter, Ralph (Johnnie Sue) Carter, Ronnie (Dorothy) Carter and Layne (Brenda) Carter, all of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
