James R. Hurst, age 80, resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away Saturday evening, February 2, 2013, in a local healthcare facility. He was a member of the North Cleveland Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served his country in the Korean War. He retired from Bowater at 40 years of service. For 30 years he was very active in the church bus ministry. He was a lifetime member of the Cleveland Men's Bowling Association. He was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Jo Hurst, father, James Henry Hurst, mother, Katherine Kibble Hurst Bedwell and stepfather, Walter Bedwell, one brother, Melvin Bedwell. He is survived by three children and their spouses, Kathy Jean and Ed Motley, Arkansas, Michael and Teresa Hurst, Cleveland and Timothy R. and Gail Hurst; grandchildren, Jodi Motley, Matthew and Mark Motley, Kelli Hurst, Jami Spencer, Miranda Harper, Rebekah Hurst, T. J. Hurst and Tyler Hurst; 13 great grandchildren. One sister, Peggy Johnson, Cleveland, TN and one nephew and 4 nieces also survive. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at North Cleveland Baptist Church with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, February 4, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the North Cleveland Baptist Church.
