S. P. Jones, a resident of Charleston, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013. He was well known and loved in the Charleston community and known to many as "Papaw". He was a member of Charleston First Baptist Church and Charleston Masonic Lodge #484. Mr. Jones retired from Bowater Southern Paper Corporation after 34 ½ years of service and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was born and raised in Franklinton, Louisiana to the late John and Minnie Bell Jenkins Jones. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Comaleitha King and Myra Jenkins and two brothers, Ivan and Albert Jones. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Irene Talley Jones; one daughter, Rosemary Hayden of Knoxville; one son and daughter-in-law, Sidney and Norma Jones of Palm City, Florida; three grandchildren, Kelie Hammond of Knoxville and Christopher and Matthew Jones, both of Palm City, Florida; four great-grandchildren, Hayden, Noah, Leah, and Lauren Hammond of Knoxville; one sister, Josie Mae Robinson; and several nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 in the chapel of Grissom Funeral Home with Pastor Harold Millsaps officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.
