William R. Nunnery, 87, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on June 3, 2013 at Signature Healthcare Hospice Facility in Cleveland. A life long fight with diabetes has ended. He was born on October 22, 1925 in Stedman, North Carolina. He was married to Flora Laws for 66-years. They were married in Rossville, Georgia September 17, 1946. William served as a minister and Bishop in the Church of God of Prophecy his entire life. He held numerous positions in the church, including as pastor in North Carolina and Maryland, and then as State Overseer in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Iowa, Delaware, New Jersey and Kansas. His last pastorate was at age 79 for 2 ½ years in Bonnettsville, North Carolina. William's only hobby was as an admirer and trader of automobiles and trucks. We believe he owned or traded over 100 vehicles in his lifetime and had a very keen memory of each one. Survivors include his wife, Flora Laws Nunnery of Cleveland; daughter June Nunnery Metaxas and husband Tassos; daughter Jean Nunnery Demchak and husband David; son Jerry Nunnery and wife Brynna; and daughter Jennifer Nunnery Hare and husband Steve. He was survived by his grandchildren Juston and Jordan Nunnery, Jacqueline Hagy, Paul and Stephen Metaxas, Steven Hare, and Kate Demchak. William also had three great grandchildren: Knox and Nash Hagy and Kennedy Nunnery. He is survived by his brothers Robert and Preston Nunnery, and sisters Rachel Bennett, Vernie Faircloth and Sadie Bigsby of Stedman, North Carolina. A Memorial Service will be held at Peerless Road Church 1200 Davis Drive NW, Cleveland, Tennessee, at the intersection of Raider Drive & Peerless Road, on Wednesday June 5th at 11:00AM. The family will be at the church for visitation between 10:00AM until 11:00AM on that day. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Society through www.diabetes.org as a Memorial Donation.
