Norene Nichols

NORENE NICHOLS Velma Norene Nichols passed away July 3, 2013. Norene was a resident of Cleveland, TN for many years. At the time of her death she was living in a suburb of Denver, Colorado. Norene was the wife of Dr. John D. Nichols, they were married for 58 years until his death in March of 2009. She was born in Oklahoma City September 22, 1930 but spent many years in California where she met John. Her church affiliation was with the Church of God (Cleveland, TN). John and Norene partnered in their career of pastoring churches in California and Alabama before becoming state overseers for the church in Oregon, North and South Dakota, Illinois, Florida and also lived in Cleveland, TN where John served in the executive committee of the church and director of Care Ministries. During this time Norene received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Lee University and taught school in the Cleveland City School System. Norene was a dynamic person. She loved her family and friends and traveled the world with John in their ministry. Never dull in her stories and accountings she was a source of entertainment for all those who loved her. She leaves behind a great family legacy along with her two daughters; Jeanne Nichols (son-in-law Patrick Gooch) and Judith Moore (son-in-law Dan Moore); 4 grandchildren Jake (married to Kotomi Yoshida), Samantha (married to Will BoBo), Tiffani (married to Adam Swalley) and John D. along with 5 great grandchildren Cyrus, Eli, Kayuki, Ivan and Mio. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 5-7 PM at the Lee University Chapel in Cleveland, Tennessee, followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM. Interment and a special service will be held at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, TN on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the John D. and Norene Nichols Widows Endowment.
