Eva Lee Cantrell

December 2, 1914 — January 28, 2014

Eva Lee Cantrell, 99, of Cleveland passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at her home. She attended Waterville Baptist Church and was retired from Magic Chef (Whirlpool) after 33 years of service. She was also retired from the Bradley County Nursing Home and the Michigan Avenue School cafeteria. She was one of the first ladies hired at Dixie Foundry (Whirlpool), during the war. She loved to participate in the Senior Olympic Games, district and state level, and won several gold medals. She was preceded in death by the fathers of her children, Clarence Ervin McKinney, George Johnson and Roy Cantrell; four brothers, D.R. Cross, Avery L. Cross, Bufford B. Cross and Allie E. Cross; four sisters, Dottye Cross Haney, Ruth Cross Geren, Edith Cross Carlton and Sallie E. Cross. Survivors include her daughter, Joyce McKinney Goins(Quinton); two sons, Glover L. McKinney(Florence) and James E. McKinney(Jan); nine grandchildren, Mark Thomas Goins, David Lee McKinney, Clarence Patrick McKinney, Curtis Dale McKinney, Michael Steven McKinney, Donna Lynn McKinney Morrison, James Ervin McKinney, Jr., Joseph Eric McKinney and Jacob Eli McKinney; fifteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; one sister Lila Cross Haney and two brothers, Winfred Conway Cross and George W. Cross and one special adopted granddaughter, who was her care giver, Julie Goins Tallent. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2014 in the chapel of Grissom Funeral Home with Pastor Allan Lovelace officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery with James Ervin McKinney, Jr., Joseph Eric McKinney, Jacob Eli McKinney, David Lee McKinney, CMAS U.S. Air Force, Curtis Dale McKinney and Mark Cody Goins serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at the funeral home.
