Anna Lee Scott McDowell, 83, passed away peacefully September 4, 2014 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. She was born July 16, 1931 to James and Ruth Scott in Madisonville, TN. She married her late husband, Billy Joe, in 1947 and remained with him until his passing in 2012. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cleveland. She became friends with many Clevelanders through her long career at Parks Belk Stores. Anna Lee was preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy Joe; her parents, James and Ruth Scott; sister Virginia Scott Storm, brother, Carl Scott; brothers-in-law Ronnie McDowell, Paul Storm, and James McClanahan; sister-in-law Pat McDowell; and life long friends Don and Jerry Maples. Survivors include her sister Betty Jo Scott McClanahan, children Charles McDowell and Cynthia Black of Atlanta, David McDowell and Lori Gardner, of Cleveland; sons-in-law Steve Black and Tim Gardner; daughters-in-law Toni McDowell and Gina McDowell; grandchildren April Stevens, Adam McAmis, Benjamin McDowell, Kelly McDowell, Christopher Black, and Jennifer Black; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive guests at 1:00 PM Sunday, September 7, 2014, at Grissom Funeral Home with the funeral following at 3:00 PM with Reverend Tom Moncrief officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery. Scott McClanahan, Benjamin McDowell, Keith McDowell, Kent McDowell, Kreg McDowell, and Lucas Nunn will serve as pallbearers. It is requested that donations be made in Anna Lee's honor to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
