Irene T. Jones, 91, a resident of Charleston passed away Friday, September 5, 2014. She was well known and loved in the Charleston community and known to many as "Mamaw." She was a member of Charleston First Baptist Church and Eastern Star #187. Mrs. Jones was a past employee of Charleston Hosiery Mill. She was born and raised in Rio, Louisiana to the late Morris and Eldora Thomas Talley. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Sidney Prentis Jones. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jake, Jesse and Hubert Talley; three sisters, Reatha Corkern, Lula Rester and Ruth Sigrest. She is survived by one daughter, Rosemary Hayden of Knoxville, TN; one son and daughter-in- law, Sidney and Norma Jones of Clinton, TN; one granddaughter and her husband, Kelie and Russell Hammond of Knoxville; two grandsons, Matthew Jones of Jacksonville, FL and Christopher Jones of Tequesta, FL; four great-grandchildren, Noah, Leah, Lauren and Hayden Hammond of Knoxville; several nieces, nephews and wonderful caregivers. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 9 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Grissom- Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Harrill Millsaps officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 9 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. The family requests that memorials be made to Charleston First Baptist Church, 338 Market Street, Charleston, TN 37310.
