Paul Edward McConnell, age 84, October 1, 1929 - September 27, 2014, passed away following a brief illness as a result of complications from a heart attack. A native of Cleveland, TN, Paul was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. He was a faithful member and deacon at the North Cleveland Baptist Church. He co-owned McConnell-Gates Exxon for many years until he retired in 1991. He was the son of the late Jess McConnell and Blanche (Whaley) McConnell. He was preceded in death by his wives, Geneva Mason McConnell and Vivian Casteel Webb McConnell. Brother and sister in law, J. W. and Pat McConnell, sister, Marie McConnell Jones. Survivors include his children, Marsha (Mike) Wallace, Donna Haney of Cleveland, Libby (Robert) Bookout of Charleston, TN; son, Paul Dee (Tammy) McConnell of Cleveland; Joyce "Joy" (Bobby) Rogers of Etowah and Bob Webb of Cleveland, TN. Grandchildren, Abby Wallace, Dallas, TX; Travis (Brooke) Haney, Austin, TX; Courtney (Wendell) Marlar, Trisha (Monty) Frazier, Jonathan (Alison) Douglas, all of Cleveland; Josh (Whitney) McConnell of Franklin; Kiersten and Whitney McConnell of Cleveland; Megan (Jordan) Shepherd of Gatesville, TX; Amy (Eric) Houle, Alpharetta, GA; David (Heather) Gates, Tunnel Hill, GA; Jennifer Webb and Mike (Jessica) Webb of Cleveland, TN; Great Grandchildren, Tyler Ferguson, Cade and Atalee Douglas, Ryleigh McConnell and Lennox McConnell, Jaxon and Emma Rae Shepherd, Carson and Owen Houle; Emily, Ansley and Dawson Gates, Claire Swallows, Hailey and Emily Webb. Special friends, Miles Gates, Paul Smith III and Clifford Plemons. The funeral service will be held Monday, September 29, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. at North Cleveland Baptist Church with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating. Interment will be held privately in Sunset Memorial Gardens with David Gates, Travis Haney, Jonathan Douglas, Mike Webb, Josh McConnell, Jason Swallows, Monty Frazier and Wendell Marlar serving as pallbearers. The Bill Houston Sunday School Class members will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials please be made to the North Cleveland Baptist Church Building Fund.
