Virgil D. Calfee, 78, a resident of Cleveland, passed away January 21, 2015, at SkyRidge Medical Center. As a farmer, he lived in the Chilcutt community. He was a member of the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy. He attended Chilcutt and Charleston Schools in Bradley County. He was a member of the Bradley County Agriculture Hall of Fame, East Tennessee Historical Society, Farm Bureau Inc. and the National Dairy Shire. Virgil received the American Farmer Degree and was proud that all three of his children and one grandson are also recipients. He has been an avid researcher of his family genealogy and is a First Family of Tennessee descendent, four times over. Virgil was preceded in death of his wife of 54 years, Carrie Goforth Calfee. He is the son of the late Walter Calfee and Belle Dyke Calfee. He is also preceded in death by his brothers Ivan and Jimmy, and sisters Viola, Halcie, Verdia, and Exie. Survivors include children, David and Leesa Calfee, Glenn and DeLonda Calfee of Cleveland, Linda and Kevin Baird of Scottsburg, Indiana; grandchildren, Nicholas and Natalie Calfee, Andy Calfee, and Michael and Jared Baird; siblings: Igean and Mary Elizabeth Calfee, Roxie and Henry Wyatt, and Ruth Cartwright; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Remembrance of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy with Pastors Brian Sutton, Wade Patterson, and Keith Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Andy Calfee, Nicholas Calfee, Michael Baird, Jared Baird, Ben "Calfee" Lamb, Dylan Goins, Ron Calfee, Henry Wyatt, Jr., and Bill Risko serving as pallbearers. Jack Kersey, Markus Dyke, John Hayes, Stanton Goforth, Logan Breedlove and Lee Breedlove will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Friday, January 23, 2015 at the Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of the Fourth Floor North at SkyRidge Medical Center for their kindness and care during his last days.
