Hazel G Bacon

October 28, 1924 — February 19, 2015

Hazel G. Bacon, age 90, resident of Georgetown, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday morning February 19, 2015. She passed away at a local health care facility with her loving family by her side. Born in Austin, Texas where the family had moved to improve the mother's health. The mother died at Hazel's birth. When Hazel was 2 days old, the father and 9 children traveled by train back to Tennessee for the mother's burial. The family settled near Charleston. Hazel was the ninth child of Henry D. Gee and Rosa Eaton Gee, all of which preceded her in death including brothers Chester Gee, James Gee, Fletis Gee and sisters, Vesta Gee Faw, Effie Gee, Lenora Gee Gates, Belle Gee Shoemaker and Gladys Gee. Several years after the death of Rosa Gee, Henry married Feires Marler of Georgetown. They had one son, Julian, who also preceded Hazel in death. She was the last surviving member of the family. Hazel was known locally, and in the surrounding area, due to her involvement in the music profession. She was a talented musician and taught piano and organ early in her career. She taught in the local schools and assisted in the public school music classes. She later entered the retail field of musical instruments, where she remained for several years, serving as sales manager and branch manager for local music dealers. She also owned and operated her own store, Bacon Music Center, on Mouse Creek Road in Cleveland for several years. She won numerous awards for distinguished salesmanship, in addition to other honors in the sales field. She was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church since her youth, holding the rather unusual honor of serving as instrumentalist for 66 years. Afterward, she served as instrumentalist at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Cleveland. She was the charter president of the American Business Women's Association, Cleveland Chapter. She was named Woman of the Year several times and served the chapter faithfully in other positions. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Conner Bacon. She is survived by one son, Rodney and wife Brenda; one daughter, Janice Bacon Kennedy; one grandson, Gregory Bacon and wife Lori; one great grandson, Bradley, and several nieces and nephews. The lives of many people, including students and church family, were touched through her far reaching music ministry. Many of her students are following in her footsteps by serving as musicians in their own churches, much to her delight. She will be long remembered through those who now serve. A Celebration of the Life and Home Going of Hazel Bacon will be held Monday, February 23, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at Grissom-Serenity Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Farris officiating. Interment will follow in Ft. Hill Cemetery with Deacons of Georgetown Baptist Church serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Grissom-Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Mark S. Grissom Funeral Director. You may send and view online condolences at www.grissomserenity.com
