Harold Alvin Climer

April 20, 1949 — March 7, 2015

Harold Alvin Climer, 65, of Cleveland, Bradley County, Tennessee passed into the hands of God with the coming of dawn on Saturday, March 7, 2015. The son of Chief Hospital Corpsman Frank R. Climer, of Bradley County and former Naval Nurse Katherine E. Welsch Climer, of Baltimore, Maryland, he was born on April 20, 1949, at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. A lifelong bachelor, Harold lived in the house of his parents all his life, except during his college years in Texas. He moved to Bradley County upon his parents retirement there in 1979. Educated at McDonough School near Baltimore, Texas A & M University, Towson University, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, his desire to better understand the sciences of God's Creation led him to an instructor's position in the Department of Physics, Geology, and Astronomy at UTC in the early 1990's, working there until health failed him last year. Harold was a vocal supporter for the poor and disenfranchised, and felt that in better understanding God's Work, both physical and spiritual, lay the best hope for a better future for all. His leisure hours were spent watching old film media: Three Stooges, Laural and Hardy, John Wayne, World War II action films (his favorite was "The Dam Busters" - physics, action, and pathos), and uplifting modern science fiction and fantasy works. He loved classical music, Christmas time, the Baltimore Orioles and the Brooklyn/L.A. Dodgers. Supreme Pizza and a beer was a good meal. He was preceded in death by his mother in 2002 and his father in 2005. He is survived by his brother Roy M. Climer of Cleveland, by cousins and relatives near Bradley County, and aunts and relatives in Maryland. St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Cleveland will host a reception at 12 Noon and a Memorial Service at 1 P.M. on Wednesday March 11, 2015. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity. Arrangements are being held by Grissom~Serenity Funeral Home, Mark Grissom, Owner.
