Rev. Vaughn Cunningham

May 29, 1945 — March 14, 2015

Reverend Vaughn D. Cunningham, 69, born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, left this Earth to enter his Heavenly Home on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at his residence. He was a beloved husband, daddy, poppa and brother. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Perry Roberson Cunningham and Theo Francis Smalley Cunningham; and three brothers, Rev. Perry Cunningham, Calvin Cunningham, and Rev. Frank Cunningham. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Sheila Ann Long Cunningham; daughter, Vonda (Joshua) Bethel; son, Anthony (Jennifer) Cunningham; 6 grandchildren, Waylan Pleger, Alexander Cunningham, Jada Cunningham, John Bethel, Shealana Bethel, and Khalon Bethel; one brother, seven sisters and several nieces and nephews. Reverend Cunningham received Christ into his heart in Windham Springs Alabama in a brush arbor meeting in 1962. He learned to play the piano as a child and used his gifted hands to play for the Rainbow Quartet and The Sego Brothers and Naomi, traveling all over the United States ministering in music. He was drafted into the Army in 1967 during the Vietnam Conflict. He was sent to Germany as a cook and while there, began his preaching ministry with his work, with the Church of God Ministry to the Military. After taking a European Out with the military, he stayed in Germany, helping to organize a Church of God Servicemen's Center in Augsburg, Germany. Also while in Germany, he made a trip to Israel where he met his wife Sheila. Reverend Cunningham ministered in the Church of God for 42 years throughout the United States. He served on various state boards, councils, and served as chairman of state music committees. He pastored many Churches from Florida to North Dakota, Georgia, Texas, Southern Ohio, Alabama, Illinois and Louisiana. All who knew Reverend Cunningham was blessed and changed by his family's ministry. Reverend Cunningham and his Wife and Daughter loved singing together. His music and talents will be missed by many. Funeral Services will be held at the Northport Church of God, Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11A.M. Interment to follow with a graveside service at Yellow Creek Baptist Cemetery in Northport, Alabama. There will be a Memorial Service on Sunday, March 22, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. at Victory Drive Church of God, in Cleveland, TN.
