Brett "Butch" LaRue Ferney, Jr., 49, of Chattanooga died on 6/25/2015 at Erlanger Hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Lee Nehring. He is survived by one son, Nicholas Brett Ferney and wife Elora; and partner Mark Grantham; father, Brett Ferney, Sr.; one sister, Angela Ferney; one brother, Mike Ferney. Butch will be remembered for his laughter, smile and friendships. Many people were fortunate to have known him, worked with him or helped him in the causes that were dear to him. Some events and groups that were important to him were; Race for the Cure, Dining out for Life, Cut up for Life and World AIDS Day. He was actively involved in Mr. Friendly, Southeast TN Council for HIV/AIDS Care and Prevention, Consumer Advocacy Group, Peer Advocate, TAAN, TAPWA, CHACP and Chattanooga CARES. He also helped in the making of a documentary of Stigma and HIV. His family, friends, partners in activism, fur babies and partner will cherish his memory. If one is so led, contributions can be made to Chattanooga CARES or the charity of your choice. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 6:00 P.M. at the Chattanooga Quaker's Meeting, 355 Crestway Drive.
