Shirley Strickland, age 86, of Cleveland, passed away Saturday July 4, 2015 at SkyRidge Medical Center. She was a member of Peerless Road Church where she was a greeter. She played the bass drum in the Cleveland Community band. She worked as a registered nurse and also taught nursing in a community college for almost 25 years. She was an active member of the local YMCA and an avid canasta player with her dear friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Strickland; and her parents, James Otto and Edna Geneva Hoefer. She is survived by her four children, Micki Sue Strickland, of Seattle, WA, Linda Marie (Sidney Thomas) Burns, of Tallahassee, FL, James David (Kim) Strickland, of Cleveland, TN, and Rebecca Strickland (Tim) Roller, of Anderson, SC; seven grandchildren, Daniel Royce (Olivia) Burns, James William (Liz) Burns, Sidney Marie Burns, Aubrey Brooke Strickland, Abigail Nicole Strickland, Anna Geneva (David) Roberts, and Donald James Roller; three great grandchildren; William Charles Burns, Owen Thomas Burns, and Ava Gail Chamberlin. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be held at Peerless Road Church on Thursday July 9, 2015 at 5:00P.M. The family invites friends to visit in the church atrium, following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Caring Place organization, in Cleveland, Tn.
