Don Richard Rhinehart

August 11, 1924 — October 16, 2015

Don Rhinehart was born in Galion, Ohio on August 11, 1924. He passed away the evening of October 16, 2015 peacefully at his home at the age of 91. Don graduated from Galion High School in 1942. He joined the U. S. Army in 1943. On his first leave, he married his bride of 71 years. He took basic training at Camp Stewart, GA. He transferred to the 1284th Engineer Combat Battalion at Camp Swift, TX in March of 1944. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was then employed by Galion Manufacturing as traffic manager for 30 plus years. Don was an avid collector of toy trains. He was considered a jack of all trades and he enjoyed remodeling and fixing up homes. He was a life member of the Elks Club and the American Legion. He belonged to the First United Church of Christ in Galion, Ohio and attended First Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Kay (Rhinehart) Ritzhaupt; his parents, Cloyd and Mildred (Emerick) Rhinehart; sister, Betty (Rhinehart) Hill; brother-in-law, Harold Kellogg; and sister-in-law Letha Roberts. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Dorothy Kellogg Rhinehart; two grandsons, Shannon (Christy) Ritzhaupt of Cleveland, TN and Erich (Sarah) Ritzhaupt of Nashville, TN; 4 great grandsons, Jackson, Anderson, Ivan and Mason Ritzhaup; brother-in law, Lawrence (Myrtie) Kellogg of Crossville, TN; sister-in-law, Vera June Kochheiser of Galion, OH; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at Grissom-Serenity Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Bracken, officiating. Interment will be held in Galion, Ohio at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Christopher Reeve Foundation in memory of his daughter, Susan. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Grissom-Serenity Funeral Home who has charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.grissomserenity.com
