Charles Edwin Read

Charles Edwin Read, of Collegedale, passed away on Thursday December 10, 2015 at the age of 92.  Charles was a longtime member of the Collegedale Seventh-Day Adventist Church.  Charles was born in Washington DC on August 6, 1923.  He was the son of the late Roland and Alvirta Read.   Charles, a veteran of WWII, served in the Army from 1943 – 1946.  After his military service he received his BS degree from Union College in Lincoln Nebraska and his MS from Indiana University.  Charles was a Business Education teacher for 36 years.  He taught at several Colleges and then changed to teaching secondary education at Collegedale Academy from 1970 until he retired in 1986.  Over the years, Charles has enjoyed seeing his former students who still live in the Chattanooga area.

  Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.  He was proceeded in death by his wife Marilyn.  Survivors include his 4 children, C. Brent (Lana) Read; Brenda (Richard) Thornton; Lisa (Gordon) Cavin; and Tricia (Tim) Burgess; 7 Grandchildren and 1 great Grandchild.

  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Samaritan Center in Ooltewah Tennessee or the Charity of your choice.

A graveside or Memorial service will be announced at a later date.
