Sherman Collins, age 83, resident of Cleveland, TN, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 29, 2016. He passed away at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was a Missionary, Church Planter and Pastor in the Church of God for 62 years. He pioneered the Church of God work on the Atlantic Coast in the country of Nicaragua. He began the very first Church of God in, and among, the Miskito Nation. As a result of his ministry, there are now 120 Churches of God in that nation.   Most recently, he was a member of the Homestead Church of God in the Hispanic Region in Homestead, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucio Collins and Ruth Solorzano Collins, one son, David Collins and two brothers, Maximilliono Collins and Warren Collins.

 

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Estell Collins, Cleveland; five children and their spouses, Eli (Sonia) Collins, Anchorage, Alaska, Sherman (Suyapa) Collins, La Ceiba, Honduras, Otoniel (Xiomara) Collins, Cleveland, TN, Jaqueline (Roger) Mendoza, Homestead, FL and Lucio (Lisandra) Collins, Charleston, S.C. 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

 

Funeral service will be held Monday, February 1, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at International Worship Center in Cleveland, TN with Dr. Roland Vaughn officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Roger Mendoza officiating.

 

The family will receive friends Sunday, January 31, 2016, from 2-5 p.m. at the Grissom Serenity Funeral Home who has charge of funeral arrangements.
