Phyllis Anne (Polch) Wiley, 76, of Vestal NY, passed away peacefully at her Tennessee home surrounded by her family.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of 32 years, Clyde F. Wiley; parents, Peter and Helen (Scully) Polch; brother, Edward T. Polch.
Phyllis is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Eileen (Polch) and Louie Merolle; her children, Paul Wiley of Vestal NY, Suzanne (Jay) Wirth of Vestal NY, David (Farah) Wiley of Myrtle Beach SC, and Thomas (Gina) Wiley of Cleveland TN; grandchildren, Myles, Maggie, Emily and Riley Wirth, Cassidy Wiley, Tyler (Christian) Hall, Ali (Eric) Harris, and Brantlee Parks; great grandchildren, Ian and Owen Harris, and Thatcher Hall; nieces and nephews, Christine (Joseph) Messier, Jay (Lisa) Merolle, Matthew Merolle, and Ray (Heather) Merolle.
Phyllis was very active with her family, church and in her Vestal community. She was a Trustee of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, where she had a part in the planning of the new church. She also served on their Parish Council, Finance Committee and active in other OLS groups and programs. In 1992, Phyllis was elected to the Board of Education for the Vestal School District and was re-elected for 7 terms. She served as a Board Member, Vice President of the Board, the Board’s Liaison with the Town of Vestal, and served on several Board committees to better the students and district. Phyllis coached the Vestal’s Girls JV and Varsity Girls soccer teams. She taught the game of soccer and encouraged the players to do their best. Phyllis was instrumental in the development of the BCHSHA, Broome County High School Hockey Association. She was a past Board Member and President, guiding the Association through its infancy to the program that it is today, serving 8 school districts.
The family would like to thank the Hospice of Chattanooga for their compassion and support they had given to Phyllis in her final days.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main St., Vestal. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, LLC, 765 Main St., Vestal on Monday, June 19 from 4-7 p.m.
