Josephine Watson Stewart, age 99, of Cleveland died on Wednesday. July 19, 2017. She was born in Meigs County on April 18, 1918 to Bertie Ann and Perry White Watson who preceded her in death. Her spouse of 62 years, Jackson K. Stewart, died in 2002. She also lost her brother, Carl E. Watson of Decatur and sister, Willie Mae Blevins of Chattanooga.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah S. Scoggins (Jim) of Cleveland; her son, Larry D. Stewart (Karyl) of Oak Ridge; grandchildren, Dee Holtsclaw (Cyndi) of New York City, NY, Lacey Stewart of Oak Ridge and Tyler Stewart (Katrina) of Eugene, OR; great grandchildren, Bethany Holtsclaw (fiance’, Robert Souza) of Cleveland and Erik Holtsclaw of New York City. Left also to remember her remarkable life are special friends, Suzanne Jones, Betty Bumgardner, Barbara Olson, Jackie Arnold and many other wonderful friends and members of North Cleveland Baptist Church. She had a special friendship with the staff of Bradley County Healthcare and Rehabilitation who cared for her in her final years.
Jo worked for Sears stores in Cleveland for over 25 years, first in the downtown order office and retiring from the store at the old Cleveland Mall. During her retirement her main activities were gardening, crocheting and helping others whenever she could. Until her death, she was still engaged in corresponding with her many friends and crocheting.
Jo’s Rememberance Service will be held at Serenity Funeral Home of Cleveland, 3010 North Ocoee Street at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment with a dove release ceremony will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to any of the many charities and ministries of North Cleveland Baptist Church. A tree will be planted at the church in her memory.
