Don Marvin Geren, 80, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. Don was born on March 6, 1938, the oldest son of Joe and Neesie Geren. He was a lifelong resident of Cleveland and was a member of the Baptist church for most of his life. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Neesie Stinnett Geren; loving step-father, Ernest Sprouse; brother, Joe Geren, Jr. He is survived by his children, Micah Geren and Valerie Geren Walker; grandchildren, Adam Crownover, Will Walker, and Bailey Walker; and 2 great-grandchildren. He also leaves many friends, including two special lifelong friends, Judy Bennett Rodgers and Sharon Watson Feathers. Don’s self-funded education achievements included a B.S. degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College and a Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. His working career consisted of a series of management positions for 20+ years with Burlington Industries. He also was in the plumbing and electrical business, in management, and owned several small businesses through the years. Don’s last career was starting both the Small Business Development Center and the Cleveland/Bradley Business Incubator receiving several citations and awards as the director of both. Don had a very active volunteer life serving the Sports for Youth football and baseball programs as a coach. He was also active in the Junior Achievement program as a volunteer for many years. He was an active boater and collector of antique cars. The Celebration of Life will be Friday, May 11, 2018 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Serenity of Cleveland Funeral Home with a private interment in Fort Hill Cemetery at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of Bradley County, The Community Hall Church, or The Caring Place, in Don’s memory.
